Recall that a major flyover bridge at New Artisan in Enugu metropolis collapsed on September 25, sparking instant reactions not just in the State but across South East region.

Daily Post reported that Nnolim Nnaji, member representing Nkanu East and West in the House of Representatives, had moved motion seeking Federal Government quick intervention on the bridge. Before that, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has attracted the attention of Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who flew down to the State and promised succour.

But Senator Kelvin Chukwu whose constituency the affected bridge is located has been conspicuously silent.

Recall that Senator Chukwu is the brother of the Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, who was killed days before the February 25 National Assembly elections. Out of pity LP picked Kelvin to take Oyibo’s ticket and, sadly enough for the State, Kelvin won the postponed election, again out of pity.

The Senator’s obvious unpreparedness to lead is not just unnerving, it represents a loss for the State in National Assembly, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu said.

While seaking for Hon. Kelvin Chukwu on Wednesday on the floor of the Senate, Sen. Ngwu moved motion seeking Federal Government urgent reconstruction of collapsed bridge and Kelvin was contented to hide at the back seat.

How Netizens React

@lp_79: “I regret advocating for this man Kelvin. Pity politics is a dangeros thing”

@NnamaniTY: “Silent senator of LP. I salute oooo”

@Nnamani_zen2: “What a loss!!! Why is he there if he can’t speak for us? You allow other senator from another district to raise motion for what happened at your own domain”

@fanzyppya: “Ndi Labour kwenu! 😂 LoL. I may hate Chimaroke but he is better than this silent duck. I stopped supporting when his brother died. Politics is a serious business, not a place for pity”
