As many states across the federation have continued to reject Federal Government deal with Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has accepted to buy into the plan to alleviate workers’ growing hardship amidst fuel subsidy removal.
Recall that Federal Government met with the organised labour on Monday night.
In its bid to avert labour’s threats of nationwide strike, the government agreed to upscale federal workers salary to N35,000 across the states.
Having already calculated the cost and the huge attendant sacrifices on their States’ treasury, many governors have promptly rejected the salary award, leaving federal workers in the respective State stranded.
However, in Enugu State, the government agreed to replicate the federal government’s wage award of N35,000 for its workers.
Mr. Chika Ugwuoke, the State’s Commissioner for Labour and Employment, said this yesterday, adding that Mbah-led administration has already begun to cushion the effects of hike in fuel price among the residents, Vanguard reported.
“Enugu State was very prompt in the distribution of palliatives to our people and this wage award won’t be any different,” Ugwuoke said.
